What is Micro Needling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that stimulates collagen production using small sterilized needles. Microneedling the skin creates a micro “trauma” to the area which stimulates our bodies natural healing response, increasing collagen production and the growth of new skin cells.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body that makes up all of our connective tissues including: bones, skin, muscle, tendons, ligaments.

Collagen makes up 70-80% of the protein in our skin. After the age of 30, collagen declines. Hence the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, decrease in skin elasticity, etc. Diet, lifestyle, sleep all affect and can speed up the decrease in collagen production. It is also possible to slow down the breakdown of collagen.

Benefits of Micro needling:

  • Micro needling is used to reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles, dark spots,  large pores, and acne scars.
  • Scalp micro needling may be used to treat alopecia and hair loss.
  • Smoothes uneven skin tone.
  • Micro abrasions to the skin (micro needling) speeds up cellular skin turnover rate improving skin tone and elasticity.
  • Absorption of serums for maximum benefits to the skin and for overall hydration.

Q + A

How many microneedling sessions do I need to notice a difference?

  • Some people notice a difference after the first treatment, but it is advised at least 1x treatment for 3 consecutive months to notice a difference.
  • Cellular turnover decreases with age, micro needling and the micro trauma to the skin progressively increases cellular turnover rate post treatment. Hence why it may take some time to notice changes in the tissues of the skin.

What to Expect Post Microneedling Treatment:

  • Some redness, skin irritation, peeling

What To Do + Not Do Post Treatment:

First 24 hrs

  • Hydrate with a non alcohol toner or serum.
  • Avoid sunlight, wear sunscreen and wear a hat!
