Garlic, the Magical Herb
Garlic is one of my favorite herbs~to cook with and use medicinally. It’s my serious go-to-herbs when I’m battling a serious infection or stubborn fungal issues! It’s healing properties are vast and effective.
Garlic is warming and pungent and has an overall detoxing effect on the body. It reduces accumulated waste materials + toxins including heavy metals. Bc of it’s warming nature, garlic promotes circulation and sweating and is great for early stages of wind-cold attack especially when you feel a sore throat coming on.
Garlic is also highly anti-fungal + anti parasitic! Great to travel with when going overseas. Garlic aids in digestion. It also has anti-viral properties, and highly effective for HSV-1, and HSV-2. It will burn, but if you place garlic over a cold-sore, it will speed up healing like no other!!
In acute situations I prefer eating raw garlic with something sweet to counter it’s pungent heating effects. Also eating a meal beforehand is recommended since garlic can be hard on the stomach. Cooking garlic in oil is also a preferred medium and easier to ingest.
I don’t recommend garlic for longterm use. It can be hard on the stomach. And it’s pungent taste can be too drying and heating for vata + pitta types. Considered to be tamasic in nature according to Yogic texts, interestingly enough TCM and Ayurveda also agree that overuse of the pungent taste can dull the mind
Overall Garlic is a supreme herb for healing and tastes great for culinary use as well!!
Enjoy!
