Ayurvedic Postpartum Care

42 DAYS for 42 YEARS

Why postpartum care and what does it actually mean?

Medical professions speak about the importance of the six week “window” of time after a mother gives birth, but don’t really know why. Some believe it is because it takes the uterus 6 weeks to fully re align itself after giving birth, but Ayurveda understands that there is much more to that!

*According to Ayurveda, there are 3 sacred periods in a woman’s life, one of them being the 42 days after giving birth. This time is considered possibly more important than the pregnancy itself! Psycho physiologically she is just as delicate as her newborn baby and this is a very delicate time.

The next 42 days will set a mother up for the next 42 years of her life. This is an undervalued concept in our society and fortunately, Ayurveda recognizes the importance of “mothering the mother” and it is bringing back some of the old traditions that are now disappearing.

The Role of an Ayurvedic Postpartum Doula:

*Embraces a broader scope of practice using ancient knowledge and skills (and integrates from cultures that emphasis postpartum care) to rejuvenate mother and baby.

*Helps to fill in the “missing” gaps in both allopathic and “alternative” medicine and supports a mother with resources and education.

*Guides mother’s process of “knowing” to unfold as she restores her biological memory.

*Offers simple practices and tools for mother, baby, family, friends and her community. This will create longer lasting and more positive influences that everyone will take with them for the rest of their lives.
