Turmeric Paste: How to Make Golden Milk

I’m not a big coffee drinker. I do love teas, and having healthy ones so that I know I’m doing my body good. I wanted to share this wonderful recipe for Turmeric paste and tea because Turmeric is one of those herbs that I personally love taken as food. This is one of my favorite and easiest ways to get in all the amazing benefits of Turmeric.

Turmeric is considered a super food in itself, one of the earth’s treasures ( in my opinion), and used worldwide extensively. It has many benefits:

*anti-inflammatory on joints and muscles

*liver cleanser-improves liver functions, helps increase your livers ability to clear ldl ( bad choesterol)

* Uterine Cleanser

*powerful anti-oxidant-protecting cells from free radicals

*great for digestion!-used a lot in cooking all over the world!

*the list could go on…

So, one of my favorite things to drink in the am is not coffee, but Golden Milk. First I make a paste with turmeric to add the water element since turmeric can be a little drying( plus I have a lot of vata). Cooling it down and cooking it also to make it more bioavailable!

Ingredients for turmeric paste:

  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup) of organic turmeric powder ( i get mine from mountainroseherbs.com)

Put the water and turmeric in a small saucepan and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring with a wooden spoon on med to low heat. Be careful because turmeric stains! When the mixture begins to thicken it is ready. Pour it into a glass container, close it with a lid and store in the fridge. * It will stay good for at least 30 days.

For the Golden Milk:

  • 1 cup of milk (you can use cow’s milk, goat’s milk or non dairy ones such as soy or rice milk) I like to use Almond milk:)
  • about 1/2-1 Tsp of turmeric paste
  • 1 teaspoon sweetener (honey for my kapha friends, maple syrup or  succant for my pitta/vata friends)
  • 1/2-1 teaspoon of ghee
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon or cardamom, if you like:)
Heat the milk and add the turmeric paste and stir until dissolved. Add the sweetener, oil and cinnamon, stir and the drink is ready. * You can also use the paste when cooking:)
*Also a great treat for mom’s postpartum to help with detoxification earlier days postpartum:)
Enjoy!
Jenny

  1. Hi Jenny! I just pinned your recipe to my Healthy Eats for the Ayurveda Inclined board on Pinterest but would have loved to pin the photo you have of the turm milk. If there’s any way you could make it so your pretty photos are pin-able, that’d be great. Thanks for sharing your recipe- I’ve never done it with a turmeric paste before and it sounds easy & enjoyable. Thanks! xo
