Building Immunity & Resilience this Fall Season

Fall in East Asian medicine is dominated by the lungs, large intestine and connected to the skin and immune system, which are powerful barriers against external pathogens. Cooler and drier temperatures can easily affect these organs making them susceptible to colds and flu during this time.

Adaptability and building resilience are necessary components to fighting off diseases. Building our protective wei qi and immune system guards us against exterior invasions keeping sickness at bay.

Fall Tips to Boost Immunity this Season:

Protect yourself from Wind + Cold: Wear warm clothes and protect the back of your neck- considered the wind gate. When exposed to cold or wind, it makes you susceptible to getting sick.

Focus on Yin Tonifying Foods to Nourish and Moisten the Lungs like pears, apples, tremella, rice, astragalus, ginger, mushrooms, white radish.

Self Oil Massage to moisten, hydrate and aid in circulation for the skin and tissues.

Deep breathing Exercises: The lungs govern the metal element. Deep breathing exercises can help calm the nervous system and strengthen the lung qi.

Processing emotions: As yang turns to yin, focusing our energy inwards becomes more apparent this season. Journal, dance, move your body, talk to friends, do what you need to do to digest and process your emotions. The lungs govern the emotions of grief and sadness. The more we let go, the more present we can be in mind and body.

Take care, and Happy Metal Season to all!
